Who is Master Hyunmoon Kim
Sanctioned by the revered Taoist hermit Chung San, Hyunmoon Kim is one of a handful of Master teachers who have brought the ancient practice of Sundo [Kouk Sun Do] to the West.
Since his arrival in Connecticut in 1979, Master Kim has opened Sundo branches throughout the United States and Canada and overseas in France, Denmark, The Czech Republic, Romania and Malaysia.
Sensing the humanitarian potential in the wisdom of the practice, he launched The AIDS Project in 1992 to help the crisis-stricken Hill Tribes of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. These communities of ethnic minorities lived for decades ravaged by rampant drug use and epidemic levels of AIDS infection. Master Kim saw these problems as symptoms stemming from a loss of identity and purpose, which the Sundo practice was able to positively help them reclaim, paving the way for their own “self-realization movement.”
Master Kim’s unconditional love for humanity and its endless pursuit of self-knowledge has furthermore led to his development of an illuminating new field of study called Sundology. This subject integrates Western psychology into spiritual exchanges and principles from Mayan civilization, Hinduism, Tibetan practices, and Chinese Taoism.
Sundology has operated as a Master’s Degree Program at the Graduate School of Health Promotion at Hanseo University, located at the foot of Mt. Gayasan in Naepo, for 20 years. It became the cornerstone of Sundo’s academic, scientific, and practical applications that will lead to the next 1,000 years of culture and progress for the spiritual discipline.
